ABOUT THE ARTIST

Gail Morrison began painting in Italy. Gaia is the translation of the artist's first name and the signature for all her work.

In 1989 she left Chicago and a career in public relations and marketing to travel around the world; the first destination was Italy. After a year of biking, hiking and painting on five continents, Gail yearned to return to Italy and enrolled in intensive language study in Florence. Her subsequent fluency in Italian and previous marketing experience opened doors for a consulting position in Genoa, Italy where she lived and worked until June of 1992.

In the summer of 1992, she studied oil painting in Tuscany with an international group. The three-month study was directed by staff of the School of the Art Institute of Florence, Italy. Students lived in vintage farmhouses and shared studio space created above the cantina where aging Chianti wine was stored.

Returning to the United States later that year, Morrison took up residence and established a studio/gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since switching careers ten years ago, she has been the recipient of numerous art awards and solo exhibitions. Her work, shown in the United States , France, and Italy, hangs in private and corporate collections here and in Europe.

You may visit Gail Morrison's art studio and gallery at the Pendleton Art Center on the Final Friday of every month from 6 -10 p.m. Also open by appointment. Call 513.684.0658.

This bilingual artist occasionally leads painting holidays in Tuscany.
